ABOUT OUR CHARITYWater Wells for Africa (WWFA) is a non-profit organization founded by members of the Breakwater Church in Manhattan Beach, CA. For more than a decade, we have been answering the cries of our needy neighbors in Malawi, Africa, by bringing them clean drinking water. We raise funds to install water wells that serve many families. The clean water dramatically reduces new occurrences of disease and provides resources for micro-farming. Less disease and more food means healthier children and more productive adults…changed lives! Since 1996, we have funded and installed over 100 water wells providing water to over 150,000 people. We return yearly to assess the condition of the wells, perform maintenance, and find strategic sites for building more.
WWFA partners with key local leaders in Malawi who help with logistics, transportation, and translations. Additionally, we contract the Christian Service Committee to perform drilling, sanitation, and maintenance training. |

He has been on missions to 30 countries including China, India, Malawi, Mozambique, and Zambia. Four times he led teams to South Africa to minister to prisoners, orphans, and hospital patients. In 1994, he made important connections with Bob Brack, a Foursquare missionary in Blantyre, Malawi; Reverend Alan Chabwera, the Foursquare National Leader; and with the Christian Service Committee, a local water well drilling company. The vital network was formed and the Water Wells for Africa project was born. In 1996, the first well was installed.
In 2003, Kurt founded the Breakwater Church in Manhattan Beach, CA. On the 2008 annual outreach to Malawi - called Africa Outreach - Kurt led teams to 47 villages sharing the Word of God, providing much-needed medical help, and providing special ministries to the children and women with music, drama/skits, and prayers.
Kurt is an avid fisherman, expert craftsman, student of church history, and environmentalist. During his "free time," he annually organizes a service project to clean up portions of the Merced River in Yosemite National Park.
Kurt is married to Irma, his high school sweetheart. They have: six children including Erika, Kristina, Danika, Kendrika, Marika, and Daniel; two grandchildren Micah and Elijah; and a dog "Afrrika," a Rubber Boa, three tortoises, and a big iguana lizard. He did his Master's thesis on Women in Ministry, defending the full access for women to spiritual empowerment. |
